many problems cross compiling on ubuntu 16 #4

Hi
I keep running into issues, solving one and then another crops up. I suspect I have a root cause I'm not finding. I'm running Parallels with Unbuntu 16 on OS X (latest).
the latest issue, that I can't figure out how to fix is
make[2]: Entering directory '/home/parallels/cross-comp/werecatf/scripts/config'
/bin/sh: 1: /home/parallels/cross-comp/werecatf/staging_dir/toolchain-mipsel_24kc_gcc-5.4.0_musl-1.1.16/bin/mipsel-openwrt-linux-gcc: not found
Issues have been things like mkhash missing (I added an empty shell script to get around this). There node-gyp missing, so I deleted the entire directory and started again. That is when I noticed the above error. I must have missed it the first time
